Worthington beer marks racecourse centenary

May 5, 2007: Horse racing enthusiasts at Uttoxeter were today given the chance to buy 100 special bottles of beer commemorating the racecourse's centenary.

The beer — a proper India pale ale with a strength of 5.6% ABV — comes from the Worthington White Shield Brewery, owned by Coors, in Burton upon Trent.

The bottles cost £4 and sales were limited to one per person for the first 100 punters.

Steve Wellington, head brewer at the Worthington White Shield Brewery, said: “Like fine cask beer, the bottle conditioned Uttoxeter Racecourse Centenary Ale boasts a small amount of William Worthington's feisty dual yeast, and will mature for at least three years”

While the ale is a delight to drink on its own, Steve says it will go perfectly with a traditional Sunday roast or with English Cheddar or Stilton cheeses.
