Getting a Head of Steam
August 4, 2005: Fullers
has purchased of the Head of Steam pub at London's Euston railway station.
The well-known pub will operate as a managed house, focusing on cask ale,
an impressive wine selection, good food and customer service. The pub
will continue to stock a selection of guest ales alongside the full Fuller's
range.
At the request of Head of Steam managing director, Tony Brookes, the pub
will be renamed the Doric Arch, in honour of the famous structure built
by Philip Hardwick in 1836 for the London & Birmingham Railway. The
arch was demolished in 1962 and the name has been chosen to reflect the
heritage of the station.
Retail director Simon Emeny said: "This is a great purchase for Fuller's.
The pub is already well known for its real ales so the Fuller's range
will be perfect stablemates. The pub is in an area we know well and we
expect it to quickly gain the same excellent reputation as our other station
pub, the Mad Bishop and Bear at Paddington.
"We are looking forward to getting cracking with the Doric Arch,
and hope the new name will attract some new customers, as well as appealing
to the Head of Steam's existing clientele."
