African lager — the ideal North Pole tipple!

September 3, 2007: Explorer Pete Goss made sure he had all the essentials for his trek to the North Pole — which he considered to include a bottle of East African Tusker Lager.

It was not an easy task — he had to nurse the bottle all the way to make sure the liquid didn't freeze en route. Still, it was nice and chilled for when he achieved his target.

Pete, who runs a business helping individuals on treks to the North Pole while rasing money for charity, discovered Tusker on a trip to Kenya and has been a fan ever since.

Tusker is an award-winning lager that took gold at the Monde Selection international beer awards. Dating back to 1922, it is brewed using the highest quality malted barley grown in the Kenyan Rift Valley.

It was named in memory of the brewery's founder, George Hurst, who was killed by a rogue elephant in 1923.

Peter Karsten, distributor of Tusker in the UK, said: "We have always known that Tusker appeals to people with a sense of adventure, and Pete's amazing journey proves that this is right."
