Toucan heralds return of Irish Guinness

September 3, 2005: Guinness has launched a promotional campaign trumpeting the fact that its famous stout is now imported from the Dublin brewery.

For many years the Guinness we drink in Britain was brewed at Park Royal, London, and connoisseurs of the black stuff would assert that it tasted different to the glass you got in Ireland.

So the switch has been made, in the hope that sales of the beer - which faces tough competition from keg and real beers, as well as rivals stouts - will rise.

Also making a return to the Guinness advertising campaign is the company's famous Toucan. He (she?) features in a series of press and billboard advertising helping to convey the message that Ireland's most famous export is now the genuine article once again.

Of course, how traditional extra-cold Guinness is is debatable ...
