Shock closure of famous Soho pub
September 2, 2006: Pubco Mitchells & Butlers says it is to close one of London's most famous pubs on September 11, blaming its poor economic performance.
Known as a great rock music venue, the Intrepid Fox, in Soho, has seen many famous faces walk through its doors. It is one of 20 pubs being sold by the group in a deal worth £53 million.
The closure has been opposed by CAMRA, and even former Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren, who used to drink in the pub with his proteges, has started a campaign to keep the venue open.
