Cornish brewery boosts tsunami funds

l All of Orange Watch, from St Austell fire station, with Kelley Seberry and Annie Sprague who won a prize to be firefighters for the day, with Adam Sprague and Carly Price, tenants of the Western Inn, St Austell.

April 2, 2005: Members of staff from St Austell Brewery have raised £11,576 for the victims of the Boxing Day Indian Ocean disaster.

The money was collected at dozens of charity events organised by licencees across Cornwall and employees at the brewery. Fundraising initiatives ranged from an auction to becoming a firefighter for a day, plus various raffles.

Chairman of St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust, Piers Thompson, praised everyone who supported the appeal: "Post-Christmas is always a difficult time of year to raise money for charity, but people across the brewery and our customers have not hesitated in digging deep to support this vital appeal. This is a fantastic figure to raise in such a short space of time and I would like to thank everyone who made a donation."

The money has been used to pay for Shelterboxes and other aid for the tsunami victims.
