Apple cake is named Dorset's national dish
February 11, 2007: Badgers search for the national Dish of Dorset a recipe to take its place alongside the Cornish Pasty, Yorkshire Pudding and Lancashire Hotpot as the signature dish of its county discovered eight mouth-watering creations that all feature in the new Badger recipe card set.
The winning dish Dorset apple cake, by Greg Coomer and the seven runners-up all combine to make a delicious set of recipes, which are easy to prepare and wont take up too much time in the kitchen.
Rick Payne, brands marketing manager at Hall & Woodhouse, said: "Badgers fourth set of recipe cards is a celebration of Dorsets finest ingredients. Over 250 dishes were entered into Dorsets National Dish competition and the final eight really were the cream of the crop.
Each of the eight recipe cards have been matched with a delicious bottle of Badger ale. The dishes are:
l Organic honey gammon
steak, supplied by Dan Green, of Twelve Green Acres organic farm shop,
Wareham
l The great Dorset sausage fayre, supplied
by Antony Marshall, of True Lovers Knot, Tarrant Keyneston
l Melcombe toasted venison, supplied by
Janet Pook, of Best in Dorset Farmers Markets
l Honeyed pork tenderloin with Dorset Blue
Vinny sauce, supplied by Ben Thebe, of the Blackhorse Pub, Sturminster
Marshall
l Johns Dorset panhandle, supplied
by John Parkes
l Country lamb pie, supplied by Martin Aldridge,
of Bridport Gourmet Pies
l Dorset apple cake, supplied by Greg Coomer
