August 28: Vintage car day and beer festival at Croots Farm Shop, Farnah House Farm, Wirksworth Road, Duffield, Derbyshire. West Hallam-based Nutbrook Brewery, which produces Croots' farmyard range of beers, will be running the beer tent at the free event. A number of Croots' beers will be available on tap, including the award-winning Cow Juice ale which recently scooped a gold in the 2010 Great Taste Awards. Around 25 vintage cars are expected to be on display at the event, which starts at 11am and runs throughout the day. There will also be a barbecue.

August 28: Charity open day at Triple fff Brewery, Station Approach, Four Marks, Hamsphire. Featuring live music, Pressed Rat and Warthog hot dogs, Graham's famous giant curry, real ale and brewery tours.

4SEPTEMBER 2010

September 2 to 4: Ulverston Charter Beer Festival at Coronation Hall, Ulverston, Cumbria. Beers from across the country, plus a wide range of ciders. Opening times: Thursday, 7pm to 11pm; Friday and Saturday, noon to 11pm. Organised by the Furness branch of the Campaign for Real Ale.

September 2 to 5: Ale at Amberley 5 at Amberley Museum & Heritage Centre, near Arundel, West Sussex BN18 9LT. More than 60 ales, plus ciders and perries. Entertainment includes Morris dancers, classic buses, vintage vehicles, steam rollers, the bric-a-brac shop, live music on Saturday evening and, during Saturday and Sunday, the Best of Sussex food and crefts show. Opening times and admission: Thursday, 6 to 11pm, £3; Friday, 6 to 11pm, £4; Saturday, noon to 5pm, £9.30 (museum open); 6 to 11pm, £3; Sunday, noon until the beer runs out, £9.30 (museum open) — after 2.30pm all beer/cider £1.60 a pint, plus CAMRA members admitted free. Also, £1 off day prices for students and OAPs. September 3 to 6: beer festival at the New Inn, Tresco, Isles of Scilly. 28 beers, 20 of which are new to Scilly. Live music daily. Further information at the New Inn website.

September 9 to 11:
the third Hinckley CAMRA Beer Festival at the Hinckley Masonic Hall, St Mary's Road, Hinckley LE10 1EQ. 60 beers, plus ciders, perries and fruit wines. Hot and cold food available at all times. Opening times: Thursday, 5 to 11pm; Friday and Saturday, noon to 11pm. Admission £2 (over-18s only), CAMRA members free.Souvenit glasses £2 (refundable). More information at the festival website.

September 9 to 11: Hull Real Ale and Cider Festival at the Mortimer Suite, City Hall, 67 Queen Victoria Square, Hull HU1 3RQ. 80 real ales, 27 ciders and 20 foreign bottled beers. Opening times: Thursday, noon- to 11pm; Friday, noon to 5pm, 6pm to 11pm; Sat noon to 11pm, or when the beer has sold out. Admission: Thursday, £3 after 6pm; Friday, ticket only (£3) for evening session. Card-carrying CAMRA members free all times, but you must register in advance for the Friday evening session. September 10 to 12: Horns Lodge Beer Festival at The Horns Lodge, South Street, South Chailey, Lewes, East Sussex BN8 4BD. 20 real ales plus cider and perry, food, pub garden with marquee, live music, special minibus service to and from Lewes. Day ticket £5, weekend pass £7, available from The Horns Lodge, Barcombe Stores and Post Office, The Gardeners Arms, Lewes.

September 16 to 18: York Beer and Cider Festival at Knavesmire, off Tadcaster Road, York YO24 1DJ. Organisers are aiming to offer 250 beers this year, including a bar dedicated to ales from within a 25-mile radius of York. Organised by the York branch of the Campain for Real Ale.

September 17 and 18: Northwich Beer Festival at the Northwich Memorial Hall, Chester Way, Northwich CW9 5QJ. An event built around good beers and good bands, and organised by the Rotary Club and the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA). About 24 beers from 14 breweries in Cheshire. Opening times: Friday, 5 to 11pm; Saturday, noon to 4pm and 7 to 11pm. Tickets: Friday, £6; Saturday lunchtime, £3; evening, £4. Tickets from Northwich Memorial Hall, Barnton Cricket Club, the tourist information office in Northwich and Jack Gee’s Cycles.

September 24 to 26: beer festival at Nantwich Cricket Club, Whitehouse Lane, Nantwich, Cheshire CW5 6HH, as part of the Nantwich Food and Drink Festival. Organised by the South Cheshire branch of the Campaign for Real Ale, in association with Woodlands Brewing Company. About 60 real ales, along with ciders and perries, plus live music. Opening times: Friday, 5 to 11pm, £3.50; Saturday, 11am to 11pm, free until 5pm, thereafter £3.50. More details at the festival website.

4OCTOBER 2010

October 14 to 16: Chorley Asley Rotary Club Oktober Bierfest, sponsored by Booths supermarkets, at the Territorial Army Drill Hall, Devonshire Road, Chorley PR7 2DJ. 50 rea ales plus ciders. For more details call John on 01772 746780 or Jim on 01772 612676, or click the festival website.
