Fuller's buys Christchurch pub
November 22, 2005: Fuller's has bought the Carpenter's Arms at Bransgore, near Christchurch in Dorset. The pub, which is right on the Hampshire/Dorset border, was purchased from an independent freeholder.
Tenants John and Lynn Houghton have moved to Fuller's with the pub, which will continue to be run as a tenanted operation. John and Lynn are assisted by their son Ben.
The pub is famous for its home-made food, which is not a surprise as both John and Ben are qualified chefs. But the pub is not just about haut cuisine, and plays a major role in the local community with four football teams and two darts teams also having their homes at the Carpenter's Arms.
Simon Emeny, Fuller's retail director, said: "The Carpenter's Arms is a perfect Fuller's pub. It has a reputation for superb food, but still manages to be at the heart of the community, as any great pub should. We know our beers are going to go down a storm too - the first barrel of London Pride the pub stocked, sold out in a day."
