Founded by a George Bateman in 1874 and chaired today by another George Bateman, his grandson. The brewery is still very much a family concern, although George had to buy out his brother and sister when they had wanted to put the brewery on the market. The company owns a number of pubs in and around the Lincolnshire area and thrives today as a major UK brewer. It trades under the slogan 'Good Honest Ales'.
