4BEERS: M

MANSFIELD

Bitter (3.9%)

MARSTON'S

Bass (4.4%): The iconic British bitter, now brewed under contract for global giant Anheuser-Busch InBev. A complex, nutty best bitter, with subtle hop undertones from Fuggles and Goldings varieties.
Burton Bitter (3.8%): A clean tasting bitter with malty, biscuity flavours, balanced by a delicate hop character and finish from Goldings and Fuggles varieties.
Old Empire IPA (5.7%): Strong tasting but smooth drinking, this is a proper, old style IPA with a satisfying, hoppy, bitter finish. The all-important hops are Cascade, Fuggles and Goldings. (DN: 12-01-07)
Pedigree (4.5%): A strong and distinctive aroma, slightly sulphury, is followed by a bitter hop flavour, a full malty body and undertones of fruit, leading to a smooth finish. Hops are Fuggles and Goldings.
Pedigree Six (6%): A stronger version of standard pedigree brewed exclusively for the JD Wetherspoon soring 2008 beer festival.
Pure Blonde (4.2%): A July 2007 seasonal. A light coloured beer with pale malt and a hint of wheat. The citrus aroma and bitter Cascade, Fuggles and Goldings hops balance the fullness of the wheat.
Sunbright Ale (3.8%): A classic Burton pale ale, dry, nutty and light with bitter, crisp overtones. A special in spring 2008.
Sweet Chariot (4.8%)

MATTHEWS

Bob Wall (4.2%)
Brass Knocker (3.8%):
Quite a thin body, but a big citrus hit. (DN)
Davy Lamp (5%), Pit Pony

MAULDONS

Black Adder (5.3%): A strong, dark, bitter stout with roasted and butty aromas, dark malt balanced on the palate by fruity English Fuggles hops. A former Campaign for Real Ale champion beer of Britain.
Mauldon's Bitter (3.6%), Micawber's Mild (3.5%), Midsummer Gold (4%), Mole Trap Bitter (3.8%), Peggotty's Porter (4.1%), Pickwick Bitter (4.2%), Ploughman's (4.3%), Suffolk Pride (4.8%), White Adder (5.3%)

McCOWANS

Domnhul (4.5%), Domnhul Ban (3.8%), Domnhul Dubh (4.5%)

MEANTIME

Chocolate 6.5%: If ever a beer did "what it says on the tin", this is the one. Complex roasted malt flavours give an exciting, yes chocolatey taste, which is not surprising as there is dark chocolate in the brew. A smooth, velvety finish climaxes in a bitter, almost coffee-ish note. Very satisfying indeed. (DN: 05-03-06)
Coffee Beer (6%), Helles Bier (4.4%), India Pale Ale (7.5%), London Porter (6.5%), Od Smoked Bock (6.5%)
Organic Pilsner (5.4%):
I didn't think a British brewery could make an authentic Pilsner quite as good as this: I was wrong. You only get 330ml in the bottle, but as they say, it's not what you've got, it's what you do with it. Organic barley and Perle and Hersbrcker hops create an authentic Pilsner sensation which, straight from the fridge, is going to be as good as it gets on a summer day, lazing in the garden or on the beach. (DN: 19-02-06)
Pale Ale (4.7%), Raspberry Grand Cru (6.5%), Vienna Lager (5%), Wheat Grand Cru (6.3%)

MIGHTY OAK

IPA (3.5%): A well-balanced, amber-coloured session bitter.
Saffron Gold (4.3%): A best bitter with a good hop content, smooth, refreshing, quite light in colour and taste. (DN: 23-06-07)

MILLSTONE

Windy Miller (4.1%): A golden-coloured citrussy beer with a dry, bitter finish to kick the taste buds into action. A bronze award winner in the SIBA North contest in January 2005. (DN)

MILTON

Aphrodite (3.8%), Artemis (3.7%), Augustus (5.8%), Babylon (4.4%), Bondi 93.7%), Byblos (6%), Caligula (8.5%), Claudius (4.9%), Colossus (5.6%), Constantine (4.1%), Cyclops (5.3%), Daedalus (5%), Dionysus (3.6%), Dreamtime (8.3%), Electra (4.5%), Jericho (4.8%), Jupiter (3.5%), Justinian (3.9%). MOOR

Avalon (4%): A malty beer with a big aftertaste, but quite a thin body. (DN: 01-06-05)

Confidence (4.6%): An exclusive malt is boosted with Crystal and wheat malts, with spicy American hops adding the finishing touch to this tasty best bitter.
Merlin's Magic (4.3%), Milly's Mild (4%)
Nutty Niki (4.5%):
A winter wheat beer, naturally cloudy, spiced with coraiander, nutmeg and cinnamon — vegan friendly, too! (brewery notes)
Old Freddy Walker (7.3%), Peat Porter (4.5%), Santa Moors (4.%), Withy Cutter (3.8%)

MOORHOUSE'S

Black Cat (3.4%): A tasty dark mild, not too sweet with plenty of dark fruit flavours from the malt and hints of coffee and vanilla. (DN: 05-11-07)
Blond Witch (4.5%):
A smooth, creamy beer with fine hop notes and a hint of grapefruit in the taste, leading to a moderately bitter finish. (DN: 31-05-06)

MORLAND

Old Speckled Hen (4.5%): Not at all like it used to taste when brewed by Morland (it is now owned and brewed by Greene King), but a good East of England best bitter nonetheless, with fruity aromas complemented by malty flavours. Hops used are Challenger, First Gold and Goldings.
Tanner's Jack (4.4%):
A red/brown beer with a nutty and malty palate and smooth finish. Owned and brewed by Greene King.
