HADRIAN & BORDER
Centurion Best Bitter (4.5%), Farne Island Pale Ale (4%), Flotsam(4%), Gladiator (3.8%), Legion Ale (4.2%), Reiver's IPA (4.4%), Secret Kingdom (4.3%), Vallum Bitter (3.6%)
HAMPSHIRE
Good King Censelas (5%): A strong tasting winter
ale which maintains a good hop/malt balance, but lets the malt slightly
take the limelight, as it should, to my mind, in such a brew. Plenty of
good fruitiness. (DN)
Pride of Romsey IPA (5%): This poured well from the bottle
(mind you it had been settled in the cupboard for the best part of four
weeks, which is possibly the longest I have been able to leave a pint
of beer up to now!) and came up with the most delightful creamy head.
This is robust proper IPA with a good strong hop and subtle citrus notes,
grapefruit particularly to the fore. (DN)
HANBY ALES
All Seasons Ale (4.2%), Cascade Bitter (4.5%), Cherry Bomb (6%), Drawwell Bitter (3.9%), Golden Honey (4.5%), Green Admiral (4.5%), Nutcracker Ale (6%), Rainbow Chaser (4.3%), Wem Special (4.4%),
HARDYS & HANSONS
Kimberley Mild (3.1%), Kimberley Bitter (3.9%), Olde Trip (4.3%)
HARVEYS
Armada Ale (4.5%), Bill Brewer (1%), Blue Label(3.6%), Bonfire Boy (5.8%), Christmas Ale (8.1%), Copperwheat (4.8%), Elizabethan Ale (8.1%), Imperial Russian Stout 2000 (9%), India Pale Ale (3.2%), John Hop (1%), Kiss (4.5%), Knots of May Light Mild (3%), Nut Brown (3%), Old Ale (3.6%), Porter (4.8%), Southdown Harvest (5%), Sussex Best Bitter (4%), Sussex Mild (3%), Sussex Pale Ale (3.5%), Sweet Sussex (2.8%), Tom Paine (5.5%)
HARVIESTOUN
Bitter & Twisted (4.2%): Champion Bottled Ale of 2004 and deserved so. This is a perennial favourite in a draught form at my local and epitomises the care and dedication which most Scottish brewers are putting into their beers these days. This refreshing ale combines aromatic Hallertau Hersbrucker and spicy Challenger hops in the brew, with the addition of some Styrian Golding towards the end to produce a taste sensation which hits that fine balance between subtlety and over-complexity. (DN)
HEATHER ALE
Alba (6%), Ebulum (5.8%), Fraoch (4.1%), Grozet (4.5%), Kelpie (4.4%), Pictish Heather Ale (5.4%)
HIDDEN
Hidden Depths (4.6%), Hidden Fantasy (4.6%), Hidden
Old Sarum (4.1%), Hidden Original (3.8%), Hidden Quest (4.2%), Hidden
Pleasure IPA (4.9%), Hidden Potential (4.2%), Hidden Spring (4.5%), Hidden
Strength (3.4%), Hidden Treasure (4.8%)
HIGHGATE
Dark Mild (3.4%), B-Fuggled Bitter (6%), Bee-Zone
Honey Beer (3.8%), Davenports Original (4%), Davenports Premium (4.5%),
England's Glory (4.3%), Fox's Nob (4.4%), Highgate Chaser Stout (6%),
Highland Whisky Ale (4.6%), India Pale Ale (4.4%), Old Ale (5.35%, November-January)
Old Ember (6.5%): A winter beer that will warm cockles deep within.
Complex malts and a touch of honey make a smooth-drinking ale with a hint
of fruit.
Saddler's Premium (4.3%), Special Best Bitter (3.8%)
HIGHLAND BREWING CO
Dark Munro (4%), Highland Best (3.8%), Orkney Blast (6.2%), Scapa Special (4.2%), St Magnus Ale (4.5%), Strong Northerly (5.5%)
HOBSONS
Best Bitter (3.8%), Manor Ale (4.2%), Mild (3.2%), Old Henry (5.2%), Steam No 9 (4.2%), Town Crier (4.5%)
HOGS BACK
Advent Ale (4.4%), Autumn Seer (4.8%), Friday 13th
(4.2%)
Gardener's Tipple (4.2%): Brewed to commemorate the 100th anniversary
of the Royal Horticultural Society in 2003.
Hair of the Hog (3.5%), Hop Garden Gold (4.6%), TEA Traditional
English Ale (4.2%), OTT (6%), Rip Snorter (5%), Santa's Wobble (7.5%),
Spring Call (4%), Summer This (4.2%), Xhibition Stout (4.5%)
HOOK NORTON
303AD (4%), Double Stout (4.8%), First Light (4.3%), Haymaker (5%), Hooky Bitter (3.6%), Hooky Dark (3.2%), Old Hooky (4.6%), Twelve Days (5.5%)
HOP BACK
Crop Circle (4.2%)
Entire Stout (5%): If you love traditional stout and the wonderful
roasted malt aroma and taste (its like bonfire night in a pint glass),
I urge you to try some when you can. (DN)
GFB (3.5%), Odyssey Best Bitter (4%), Summer Lightning (5%), Taiphoon
(4.2%)
Winter Lightning (5.5%): As its name suggests it's a light beer, but
with a strong taste. Good hop notes, bit of citrus in there too, and a
gentle suggestion of bubble gum. (DN)
HOUSTON
Barochan (4.1%), Blonde Bombshell (4%), Champion
(4%), Formakin (4.3%)
Jock Frost (4.5%): You guessed it - a winter brew. Although quite
pale in colour, it packs a spicy punch with good notes of cinnamon which
provide distinctiveness without dominating. (DN)
Killellan (3.7%), St Peter's Well (4.2%), Teuchter (4.8%), Texas (4.5%),
Warlock Stout (4.7%)
