Bock Beer (4.5%):
A continental-style brew with Munich malt and European Hallertau and Saaz hops. A complex, rich, smooth and warming beer. It is bottled with an ABV of 8%.

4SEASONAL BEERS 2008
Culture Beer 2008 (5%): Brewed to celebrate Liverpool, Cains' home city, being European Capital of Culture for 2008. Biscuity malt and orange citrus hops combine well for an easy-quaffing amber beer. There are Liberty, Cascade and, late on, Styrian Goldings hops. (DN: 01-06-08)

Finest Lager (5%): A smooth, full-flavoured lager with Maris Otter malt from Norfolk and Saaz aroma hops.
Fine Raisin Beer (5%): What can I say? This has instantly become a Norbury favourite, a very drinkable ale with a subtle hint of raisins sitting nicely in the background and cutting through sweetish notes. Beautiful. (DN)

CAIRNGORM

Bard's Ale (4.4%), Black Gold (4.4%), Blessed Thistle (4.5%), Cairngorm Gold (4.5%), Highland IPA (3.6%, ), Howler (5.8%), Nessie's Monster Mash (4.4%), Red Mountain Porter (4.5%), Santa's Sledgehammer (6.3%), Sheepshaggers Gold (4.5%), Stag (4.1%), Trade Winds (4.3%)
Wildcat (5.1%): Originally brewed at the now defunct Tomintoul Brewery, where I first sampled it in the 1990s, this is a smooth, deep, amber-coloured ale with a complex malt, fruit and hop flavour, the latter from Challenger and Fuggles varieties.
Tradewinds (4.3%): Light, dry, hoppy beer with pleasant tones of elderflower and vanilla. Good summer quaffing ale.
White Lady (4.7%), Witches Cauldron (4.9%)

CALEDONIAN

Auld Lang Syne (4.6%): A maltier Caledonian, but with a dry finish. Not what us Deuchars drinkers are used to at all, but jolly fine all the same. (DN)
Chocolate Drop (3.8%):
Crammed with malted roast and caramel to give a good chocolatey taste.
Deuchars IPA (3.8%):
Bursting with refreshing fruity hoppiness. A beautiful golden colour. One of those beers that maintains its lively character in a bottle, even though it is not bottle conditioned. On draught, magic. It was CAMRA's Champion Beer of Britain in 2002. (DN)
Golden Promise (4.4%)
Nectar (4.3%): Bronze in colour with a complex fruity character, there are hints of honey and a citrus palate, ending in zesty sweetness. Hops are Fuggles and Styrian Goldings.
XPA (4.3%): A full-flavoured, pale gold bitter.
80/- (4.1%): Complex beer with strong hop and malt characteristics, the strength of the former being balanced well by crystal malt and roast barley flavours. The roast barley is really strong on the aroma. A former CAMRA champion beer of Scotland.

An easy-drinking beer the bitter-sweet flavours and fruity notes of a Scotch ale.

Monkey Stout (4.4%):
A rich black colour with a chocolate aroma. Chocolate malts give a roasted taste with a bitter sweet balance. (brewery notes: 10-05-08)

Strongarm (4%):
Tasted stronger that it actually was to me, with a good deep red colour and an unexpected balance of good hop flavour against fine crystal malt. (DN)

CARLOW

O'Hara's Stout (4.3%): Voted the world's number one stout at the 2000 International Brewing Awards, the maker attributes its success to the combination of traditional stout hops, an extra pinch of roast barley and crystal clear Irish water.

CASTLE ROCK

Adder (4.5%), Bat (5.5%), Black Gold (3.5%), Conker (4.4%), Curlew (4.1%y), Elsie Mo (4.7%): This was SIBA's supreme champion of the Midlands in 2005 and one can see why. Maris Otter malt meets a selection of hops, including Challenger, to create a strong, golden pint that really gives a great deal of pleasure on a sunny summers day.
Flying Ant (4.3%)
Harvest Pale (3.8%):
A light, hoppy, exceptional session bitter. A blend of American hops balance gently kilned malt to create a very smooth and drinkable beer, described by Roger Protz, no less, as "the finest blond beer I've drunk in many a year". (DN: 25-01-08)

Southern Railway (3.7%):
Winner of the bitter class at the 2005 Maltings festival at Newton Abbot. It has an initial tartness which turns maltier then leads to a bitter finish, but its triumph is being able to pack so much taste into a 3.7% brew. A very clean tasting beer. (DN)
